CM Mann Raises Sharp Questions on SGPC & Jathedar Skal Takhat Sahib Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, while addressing the ongoing debate over the anti-sacrilege (Beadbi) law, launched sharp questions at the SGPC and Jathedar Sahib regarding their stand on the issue. CM Mann stated that the Punjab Government brought the law with the intention of ensuring strict punishment for those involved in incidents of sacrilege and protecting the dignity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He questioned why certain Sikh bodies are now opposing provisions that were already part of earlier Panthic directions. During his speech, Bhagwant Mann specifically referred to a previous Hukamnama issued from Sri Akal Takht Sahib, claiming that it clearly mentioned that if any incident of beadbi takes place inside a Gurdwara Sahib, then the local committee members and Granthi Singh would also come under investigation. CM Mann argued that the same principle has now been incorporated into the law, yet political and religious objections are being raised against the government. The Chief Minister further alleged that the Punjab Government is being unfairly targeted despite attempting to bring the strictest anti-sacrilege legislation in the country. He said that instead of politicising the matter, all Sikh institutions should unite to stop recurring incidents of beadbi in Punjab. Bhagwant Mann maintained that the law is aimed at fixing accountability and ensuring that no guilty person escapes punishment. His remarks have once again intensified the political and Panthic debate surrounding the Jagat Jyot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar (Amendment) Act, 2026, with fresh reactions expected from SGPC leaders and Panthic organisations in the coming days.
