A shocking murder case from Punjab has taken a dramatic turn after police arrested the main accused behind the killing of RTI activist and lawyer Simranjeet Singh. 43-year-old Simranjeet Singh, a well-known RTI activist from Jalandhar, was found dead near Maheru village in Phagwara with close-range gunshot wounds. The incident happened behind the law gate of Lovely Professional University (LPU), creating panic across the region. Punjab Police recovered a .32-bore revolver with cartridges near the body, while a 12-bore rifle was also found inside Simranjeet’s Toyota Fortuner. During the investigation, police quickly arrested the main accused, Sharanjit Singh alias Twinkle, who is reportedly the victim’s maternal cousin. According to DIG Naveen Singla, the murder was linked to a financial and real estate dispute involving nearly ₹5 lakh. Both cousins were reportedly involved in property dealings and had gone together to inspect land on the day of the incident.
