🚨 Sacrilege Attempt Foiled Near Akal Takht Sahib | SGPC Demands Strict Action An incident involving an alleged attempt at sacrilege was reported late the previous night at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Gurbakhsh Singh, located near Sri Akal Takht Sahib within the Sri Harmandir Sahib complex. Members of the congregation and volunteers of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) acted swiftly to apprehend the individual and hand him over to the police. Following the incident, both the SGPC President and the Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib strongly condemned the act. Speaking to the media today, Major Singh, Chief Manager of Sri Darbar Sahib, stated that after paying obeisance and circumambulating the Gurdwara, the individual approached the sacred weapons (Shastars) displayed at Gurdwara Shaheed Baba Gurbakhsh Singh and attempted to touch or interfere with them. Alert sewadars on duty immediately restrained the person and informed the police. Police officers arrived at the scene shortly afterward and took the individual into custody. Major Singh further stated that the SGPC has requested the administration to conduct a detailed investigation to determine where the individual came from, his background, and whether any conspiracy or additional persons were involved. According to preliminary information, the man is believed to be a resident of Uttar Pradesh, although officials have stressed that the final facts will only emerge after the completion of the police investigation. He added that such incidents are deeply concerning, especially as repeated attempts have been made to target Sikh places of worship. The SGPC is strengthening security arrangements and increasing the deployment of sewadars to ensure the safety and sanctity of gurdwaras. Major Singh also urged the Punjab Government and law enforcement agencies to take concrete and effective measures to prevent such incidents in the future and to safeguard the sanctity and security of Guru Ghar (Sikh shrines).
