On our incredible journey through the Columbia Icefield Parkway, we booked a guided tour to witness the majestic Athabasca Glacier up close! Our day began at the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre, where a regular tour bus took us to the staging area. From there, we hopped onto the iconic Ice Explorer – a massive all-terrain vehicle specially designed to drive on ice! 🚍❄️ The ride itself was thrilling, but the real highlight was stepping out and walking on the glacier – a surreal experience standing on a thick sheet of ancient ice and seeing the sheer scale of the Athabasca Glacier right in front of us. After soaking in the stunning views and icy landscape, we returned to the staging area and boarded another bus that took us to the Glacier Skywalk – a glass-floored platform suspended over a deep valley. At first, walking on glass was a bit scary, but the breathtaking views of the rugged canyon and surrounding peaks made it 100% worth it! 🏞️ We also spent time reading the interpretive signs about the geology, wildlife, and history of the region.
