In this exclusive interview, Padma Shri awardee Jitender Singh Shunty, also known as Jatinder Shanty, speaks about his responsibilities as a member of the Punjab State Human Rights Commission and the Chandigarh (UT) Human Rights Commission. Known for his humanitarian service and commitment to protecting human dignity, Shunty discusses several historic and people-centric initiatives aimed at strengthening healthcare accountability, emergency services, workers’ welfare and public rights. He issued strict directions that no government or private hospital can illegally detain a patient or withhold the body of a deceased person because of unpaid medical bills. He emphasized that financial disputes cannot be allowed to violate basic human rights or increase the suffering of patients and grieving families. The interview also highlights welfare guidelines for sanitation workers. Under these directions, frontline sanitation employees must be provided with proper safety equipment, including gloves, boots, masks, sanitizers and other essential protective gear. Another major initiative is the provision of mortuary boxes in villages, especially to help economically weaker families preserve the bodies of their loved ones with dignity until funeral arrangements are completed or relatives arrive. Shunty also speaks about a special emergency-response framework under which local police can provide pilot vehicles to ambulances carrying critically ill patients. Coordination through the 112 emergency helpline is intended to help ambulances move quickly through traffic and reach hospitals without unnecessary delay. A major part of the interview focuses on people who have allegedly been cheated or financially exploited by fraudulent travel agents. Shunty explains how he is giving special attention to such complaints, helping victims raise their cases before the appropriate authorities and working to ensure justice for families who have lost their hard-earned money in the name of foreign travel, visas or overseas employment. He also shares his views regarding the film based on the life and struggle of human-rights activist Bhai Jaswant Singh Khalra. The discussion highlights Khalra’s contribution, his fight for truth and justice, and the importance of presenting sensitive historical and human-rights issues responsibly through cinema. Watch the complete interview to understand how these decisions and initiatives could protect patients’ rights, support sanitation workers, improve rural mortuary facilities, strengthen emergency ambulance services and provide relief to victims of fraudulent travel agents. #JitenderSinghShunty #JatinderShanty #PadmaShri #HumanRightsCommission #PunjabHumanRightsCommission #ChandigarhHumanRightsCommission #TravelAgentFraud #PatientRights #HospitalRules #AmbulanceService #SanitationWorkers #BhaiJaswantSinghKhalra #HumanRights #PunjabNews #ExclusiveInterview #SurkhabTV Subscribe Our Youtube Channel for Daily Updates and New Videos.
