On August 12, Harjinder Singh, a resident of Rataul village in Tarn Taran district, was arrested after he allegedly took an illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike while driving a commercial vehicle, resulting in the three fatalities. However, a video of the crash was circulated widely on social media with comments against Punjabi truck drivers. In the wake of the accident, the entire Punjabi truck driver community have being targeted by many US, Canadian and some Indian social media accounts. US immigration officials have since issued a deportation order against Singh, who is expected to serve a prison sentence before being sent back to India.
