Major General Shabeg Singh was once one of the most respected and decorated officers in the Indian Army. Known for his brilliance in military strategy and guerrilla warfare, he played a major role in several important operations, including helping train forces during the Bangladesh Liberation War of 1971. But history took a dramatic turn when the same officer later stood inside Sri Darbar Sahib during the tense days leading up to Operation Blue Star in June 84. Feeling deeply hurt after his dismissal from the Army and disturbed by the political situation in Punjab, Major General Shabeg Singh eventually aligned himself with Sikh militants and became the chief military strategist defending the Golden Temple complex. Using his vast military experience, he helped build strong defensive positions inside the complex that shocked the Indian Army during Operation Blue Star. The battle became one of the most controversial and painful chapters in modern Indian and Sikh history, leading to heavy casualties and worldwide debate.
