Day 3 Canada Tripđ | Truck Dies, But Kindness Prevails
Day 3 of our Canada trip started with promise but quickly turned into a test of patience and resilience when our truck died in the wilds of Northern British Columbia. This journey, part of a larger adventure exploring Canadaâs northern regions, Yukon, and Alaska, took us through breathtaking landscapes and unexpected challenges. We began the day at Prince Georgeâs Gurdwara Sahib, a sacred stop for our Punjabi crew, where we enjoyed langarâa communal meal that fueled us with warmth and spirit. With prayers in our hearts, we hit the road, aiming for Prince Rupert, a coastal gem in British Columbia, excited to soak in more of Canadaâs natural beauty. Our route wound through quaint towns like Fraser Lake, Burns Lake, and Smithers, each offering a glimpse into the laid-back charm of Northern BC. At Fraser Lake, we paused to stretch our legs, snapping photos of the serene lakefrontâa perfect moment of calm before the storm. Burns Lake welcomed us with its rugged appeal, a small town nestled amid forests that reminded us of Canadaâs vast wilderness. By nightfall, we reached Smithers, a picturesque stop where we set up camp at an RV park, dreaming of a morning hike in the surrounding mountains. But Mother Nature had other plansârain poured down, canceling our hike and forcing us to pack up early. Undeterred, we pressed on, eager to witness more of Canadaâs wonders. Our next stop was Witset Canyon, a stunning reserve area where we watched native fishermen skillfully use stick nets to catch fishâan awe-inspiring sight that connected us to the landâs rich heritage. But just 15 minutes later, disaster struck. Our trusty Ram Truck, a beast that had carried us this far, sputtered and died. The engine seized, leaving us stranded on a remote stretch of highway with no cell service and dwindling hope. We tried everythingâchecking the oil, fiddling with the batteryâbut the truck wouldnât budge. It was a gut punch, a moment where our Canada road trip seemed doomed. Then came the kindness that prevailed. Locals stopped to help, offering rides and advice. A Punjabi gas station operator from nearby New Hazelton became our unexpected hero, driving out with engine oil. a testament to Canadaâs small-town hospitality. Despite hours of effort, the truck was beyond repair. The tow truck driver, doubling as a mechanic, confirmed the engine was seizedâa total loss. He offered $1,500 initially, but after negotiationsâand a call to our friend Mandeep Bhajiâs regular mechanic in Saskatoon, who agreed the engine was toastâwe settled on $5,000. With heavy hearts, we sold the Ram Truck in New Hazelton, a bittersweet end to its chapter in our Canada adventure. Freshy Canadian, drove up from Edmonton to pick us up, turning a breakdown into a rescue mission. A week later, with a new vehicle and Devang Sethi joining me, weâre ready to restart this epic Canada trip. Day 3 taught us that even when a truck dies, kindness prevailsâthrough strangers, community, and the unbreakable Punjabi spirit. This vlog captures it all: the highs of Northern BCâs beauty, the lows of a truck breakdown, and the triumph of human connection. From Gurdwara langar to Witset Canyonâs native fishing, from Smithersâ rainy nights to New Hazeltonâs truck sale, itâs a rollercoaster of a travel story.
